Tones And I’s “Dance Monkey” Is The Most Shazamed Track Of All Time
Shazam plays in the billionaire club every month.
The Onomatopoeic Name Music ID app hits two new milestones, as users launch one billion Shazams each month and all-time “tags” surpass 50 billion.
With one billion recognitions per month, Shazam is one of the most popular music apps in the world, notes Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music and Beats.
“Today’s milestones show not only people’s love for Shazam,” he continues, “but also the ever-growing appetite for exploring music around the world.”
Founded by a British genius Chris Barton, Shazam achieved full commercial deployment in August 2002.
Another 10 years passed before the platform crossed the billion tag mark. Now he does these numbers every 30 days.
There’s a reason it took so long to adjust.
Its first version was relatively heavy, where to mark a track the user would dial a four-digit number on their device and point it at the source of the music for about 30 seconds.
Shazam then sent a text message identifying the title and its performer. Now with the smartphone app it’s a simple tap and go.
