The Jamestown Pride Fest will take place on Saturday June 12 in downtown Jamestown
the Pride of Jamestown Planning Group has announced that the Jamestown Pride Fest will take place on Saturday June 12. The LGBTQIA + community has historically celebrated the Pride in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots that took place in June 1969.
Pride Coordinator Sheridan smith said last year’s pride had been canceled due to the pandemic, they weren’t even sure what was going to be possible for this year until a few months ago, “So one more month late it was only a very big undertaking to do as quickly as we have and now that we finally have the permits i can tell you the pride takes place at the public market in Jamestown and elsewhere right next to the public market.
Smith said the day would start at 9:30 a.m. with a pride flag raising ceremony on Tracy Plaza with the mayor Eddie sundquist.
President of Pride Programming and Events Rudi Andalora said Wintergarden Plaza will feature a safe space based on what Pride Fest in Columbus, Ohio had done, “where I have seen many community organizations come together in a very unified and diverse way. And a way for the organization to speak directly with the audience in terms of support, likeness and things one needs to know about their community.
Activities at Wintergarden Plaza will also include a free yoga and zumba class. There will also be live music by local band, Ion Sky.
Pride Fest to be crowned with a free performance by RuPaul’s Drag Race Star and native of Jamestown Pandora Boxx at Wintergarden Plaza.
Organizers said masks and social distancing will be required at the event.
