Summer open-air theater at Sheffield Botanic Gardens – here’s what you need to know
With their 2020 tour canceled due to Covid, Heartbreak is hosting the shows they had planned last year – The Great Gatsby, Wonder With Grimm, Mr Stink, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. All four productions will be performed at Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
Marking the 100th anniversary of the Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby will be served with a touch of iconic Heartbreak style at a garden party. See it at Sheffield Botanic Gardens on June 12-13.
Based on the tales of the Brothers Grimm, Wonder With Grimm (June 19 and 20) promises an enchanting evening full of magic, puppetry, music and dance. Heartbreak also performs an original fairy tale written by Find Your Voice contest winner Kasper, a Y4 student from Leamington Spa.
David Walliams’ family bestseller Mr Stink (July 10-11) returns to Heartbreak’s summer catalog for the first time since 2015.
Ten-year-old Chloe and Mr. Stink, in difficulty of housing, forge an extraordinary friendship that leads them to experience television and Downing Street via a garden shed.
The program will feature the winning roaming-themed poem for the 2020 Heartbreak Poetry Contest, and most venues will also collect for Shelter during performances.
The outdoor staple A Midsummer Night’s Dream (June 17-18) weaves its way through entangled lovers, warring fairies, and hapless human beings at an environmental protest camp. The costumes and sets are all made from recycled materials.
