Reno Tahoe Sees Record Taxable Room Revenues | New

Reno Tahoe released transitional lodging and room tax statistics showing the $457,010,853 total for the 2021-2022 fiscal year is the highest taxable room income ever in a fiscal year.

Three of the top five revenue-generating months come from the 2021-2022 fiscal year, with nine records set for monthly council tax collections.

Reno Tahoe maintains 6.625% of taxable room revenue for its operating budget, incorporating sales, marketing, promotions and facilities management. The $55.8 million increase in taxable room revenue from fiscal year 2018-19 to fiscal year 2021-22 represented a $3.2 million increase in Reno Tahoe’s overall operating budget; funds used for capital improvements, as well as additional sales and marketing programs designed to bring visitors to Northern Nevada.

In fiscal year 2021-22, taxable revenue from chambers in Washoe County increased 13.9%, from $401,157,231 to $457,010,853, compared to fiscal year 2018-2019. Cash occupied rooms decreased by 7.2%, from 3,472,202 to 3,220,907, over the same period, and average daily rates (ADRs) increased by 22.8%, from 115, $53 to $141.89. Due to the March 2020 pandemic closure of major Reno Tahoe resort hotels, Reno Tahoe emphasizes statistical comparisons to 2019.
