Highest June Class 8 sales of the year

U.S. Class 8 retail sales in June were the highest of the year, up 12.7%, Wards Intelligence reported.

Sales reached 22,358 compared to 19,840 last year. Year-to-date sales rose 0.6% to 112,255 from 111,552 in the 2021 period.

Four truck manufacturers improved their sales in June and three did not do so compared to the previous year.

The biggest jump was at Volvo Trucks North America. Its sales jumped 82% to 2,679 units, representing a market share of 12%.

“We’re taking market share the right way, working to complete a good value chain,” Volvo Trucks president Roger Alm said of the North American market during a capital markets presentation. in June.

Peterbilt Motors Co. sales climbed 19.9% ​​to 3,418, a 15.3% share.

Kenworth Truck Co. sales increased 16.4% to 3,194 and a 14.3% share.

Market leader Freightliner, a brand of Daimler Truck North America, increased sales by 9.5% to 8,129, a market share of 36.4%.

Those who did not gain sales in June compared to a year earlier:

  • Western Star’s sales fell 25% to 451 and a 2% share. Western Star is a trademark of DTNA.
  • Mack Trucks fell 8.5% to 1,560, good for a 7% share. Mack is a unit of the Volvo Group.
  • International fell 3.8% to 2,927 and gained a 13.1% share. International is a trademark of Navistar Inc.
