Grimes and Alanis Morissette judge special effects singing competition
In recent years, The Masked Singer has proven to be a success around the world, with audiences reacting positively to watching a singer’s performance without knowing who he is behind the mask.
A new TV series is expected to reinvigorate this format with a futuristic twist, as the singers take the stage not as themselves, but as their alter egos in the form of an avatar.
Alter Ego, as the show is aptly named, will feature a star jury including Grimes, Alanis, Nick Lachey and The Voice UK trainer will.i.am, while Rocsi Diaz will host .
Rather than celebrities like The Masked Singer, Alter Ego will offer attendees “from all walks of life” the chance to make their singing dreams come true.
Singers will create the avatar of their dreams, showing how they always wanted to be seen as performers, before performing using motion capture and visual effects.
Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox, pointed out how Alter Ego has a “revolutionary” concept.
“Alter Ego is fusing talent and technology to revolutionize the singing contest show in a way Fox can do,” he said, as reported by Hollywood journalist.
He expressed his enthusiasm for the panel of judges, who will be looking for the next big singing sensation.
“We are thrilled to bring together the fantastic will.i.am, Alanis, Grimes, Nick and Rocsi as they search for the next big song star, allowing incredible singers to make their dreams come true and perform like never before. “, Rob mentioned.
Earlier this year the first series of The Masked Dancer UK premiered on ITV, with gymnast Louis Smith crowned the winner as Carwash.
A few months earlier, Joss Stone had won The Masked Singer UK’s second series as Sausage, shocking viewers across the country following speculation the singer was either Sheridan Smith or Stacey Solomon.
Earlier this week, Pepe Reina was unmasked as the Penguin in Spain’s version of The Masked Singer, with the footballer joking that he was considering competing in Eurovision afterwards.
It looks like the singing competition landscape will only get even more eccentric over time.
Alter Ego will premiere on Fox.
